Thousands of public sector workers will retire in the coming weeks as part of a scheme designed to cut the public sector wage bill.

According to government figures, about 7,000 public servants are expected to retire between January and February this year, with those who retire before the February 29 deadline having their retirement entitlements based on pre-pay cut salary figures.
