This year marks the 50th anniversary of the North Louth Artists group, founded by Bea Orpen and Nano Reid in 1968 as a platform for Louth artists to show their work locally.

At the time, Orpen and Reid were well established, but in those days Louth had no arts officer, no support for visual artists and no art galleries. To be seen by serious collectors, artists had to take their work to Dublin or Belfast.
