Insurance issues over volcanic ash

Travellers affected by disruption to flights caused by volcanic ash last week may not be fully covered by their travel insurance, according to a leading broker group.

The PIBA, the country’s largest group of independent brokers, said cover might vary for affected travellers. Airports across northern Europe were shut and flights grounded after a plume of volcanic ash travelled across Europe from a volcano in southern Iceland which erupted last Thursday.
