Forbearance reform is called for

The Irish Brokers Association (IBA) has called for forbearance to be extended to other forms of personal debt, not just mortgages.

The IBA wants to see the leeway given to borrowers under the mortgage arrears resolution process to be extended to cover all short-term debts. Ciaran Phelan, chief executive of the IBA, said that while the mortgage arrears resolution process was welcome, it created inequity between mortgage and non-mortgage creditors.
