The future promotion of cultural destinations around the country to tourists will be based on the approach recently used to raise the profile of Merrion Square in Dublin, according to Aidan Pender, the director of strategy at Fáilte Ireland.

He said the national tourism development agency's new strategic direction will centre on encouraging the gradual, low-key promotion of their areas and attractions.
