Lloyds Bank: 21% of Irish home loans impaired

UPDATE: Lloyds Bank, Britain's biggest mortgage lender, has reported better first quarter profit than expected today but said a fifth of Irish home loans were impaired.

Lloyds Bank, Britain's biggest mortgage lender, has reported better first quarter profit than expected today but has said that one fifth of its Irish home loans werr classified as "impaired".

The bank said its pre-tax profit rose to stg£628 million (€772 million) from stg£284 million a year ago.

The average estimate was for a figure of stg£422 million, Bloomberg said.
