Checking into the Marriott Marquis in Dubai is not for the faint-hearted. At 72-storeys high with 1,490 rooms, it is big and brash, writes Gillian Nelis.

The JW Marriott Marquis Hotel has a 72-storey high tower, 1,490 rooms and 118 suites.

Is there any chance of a room on a high floor? As soon as the question is out of my mouth, I realise how ridiculous it sounds. I am checking into the world's tallest hotel, so getting a room on a high floor is clearly not going to be a problem.

It is late at night in Dubai, and I am checking into my room at the JW Marriott Marquis as a selection of well-dressed...
