Limerick councillors call for emergency unit

Limerick’s city and county councils have asked justice minister Brian Lenihan to sanction the establishment of a permanent Garda Emergency Response Unit (ERU) in the city to deal with gang violence.

Limerick’s city and county councils have asked justice minister Brian Lenihan to sanction the establishment of a permanent Garda Emergency Response Unit (ERU) in the city to deal with gang violence.

The council’s joint policing committee has written to Lenihan seeking a meeting to discuss a range of anti-crime measures, following last weekend’s double murders and the arrest by the ERU of a major member of the Keane-Collopy organised crime gang last week....
