Children's referendum

I endorse Tom McGurk's call: 'Let us not betray those we have already failed' (*24/06/12*) in connection with the proposed children's referendum.

As he states, if the referendum is passed, "the state's role in the care of Irish children will be paramount". Will that fill anyone with confidence after reading about the appalling failure of the state, as detailed in the recent report? Surely we cannot seriously consider giving more power to the institutions...
