Public sector salaries

Pat Leahy compares the salary (8/2/ 09) of a teacher here with her counterpart in Britain: €64,000 against €54,000.Based on current exchange rates, this is accurate. However, two years ago, the exchange rate was around 66p to €1; it is now about 88p to €1.That is an increase of 33 percent, which accounts entirely for the better salaries of teachers here.
