Tom McGurk’s article on Osama bin Laden’s death (Comment & Analysis, 8/5/11) bemoans the ideal of a trial that cannot now take place. It also displays an innocence of history’s lessons and a touch of spin.

The phrase ‘‘None of these was executed - but others were hanged’’ glosses over the fact that no fewer than ten Nuremberg defendants went to the gallows....
