Lessons from 'Bucking the Trend'

Bruised, battered, but not broken. In our Bucking the Trend series throughout this month, this newspaper showcased four sectors of the economy that are booming in the bust: animation, gaming, food and exploration.

In reality, however, we could have selected a host of other industries, such as pharmaceuticals, software and biotechnology. The series showed that many Irish entrepreneurs were continuing to launch businesses in a downturn, while others were expanding despite the recession.
