Less cash, more bargains from the attic

Leather seating at bargain prices in Sheppard’s Attic sale ranges from a set of six 19th century walnut and leather upholstered dining chairs (€400-€600) to a pair of 20th century Swedish designer leather armchairs (€500-€800).

There is also a set of six oak Mouseman dining chairs plus two carvers by Yorkshire cabinetmaker Robert Thompson (1856-1955), a key figure in the 1920s craftsman revival. Each bears Thompson’s signature carved mouse, a motif dating from a 1919 conversation about the firm being “as poor as a church mouse”. The chairs lack seats, hence the low estimate of €300 to €500.
