The government's Legal Services Regulatory Bill promises radically to overhaul how the legal profession is regulated. This is good news for consumers and for businesses.

The new system should make hiring a solicitor or barrister easier, more transparent and hopefully better value. These are some of the hallmarks of a legal profession that is regulated in the public interest.
