In a letter to the Financial Regulator in May 2004, the Law Society outlined its reservations about equity-release schemes, in particular Bank of Ireland’s product, which is known as Life Loan.

According to the letter, the key objections of the Law Society to Life Loan include the requirement for borrowers to make a will before they get the loan and to disclose the name of the executor and beneficiaries of the will.
