New court rules promoting mediation and conciliation as an alternative to court proceedings have been welcomed by lawyers.
The rules - which come into force on Tuesday - will allow judges to order parties to use alternative dispute resolution (ADR), even in cases already before the courts.
If one side refuses to participate in mediation or conciliation, the judge can take that into account when awarding costs.
