Allegations against the chief executive of a Limerick port firm, which have led to his suspension, were made in the presence of a businessman who has taken a High Court action against the company.

Brian Byrne, chief executive of Shannon Foynes Port Company, was suspended last week on foot of verbal allegations made against him by Brian Cosgrave of the Limerick company, Cosgrave Transport. An investigating committee has been set up to examine the allegations.

The allegations against Byrne concern a suggestion that he had plans to set up a logistics company, and take advantage of his position in the port company to secure lucrative contracts. Byrne categorically denies...
