Law Society gets 1,754 complaints in 12 months

There were 1,754 complaints about solicitors during the 12 months to August 31 last year, according to new statistics from the Law Society.

There were 1,754 complaints about solicitors during the 12 months to August 31 last year, according to new statistics from the Law Society.

By far the greatest number of complaints (614) related to solicitors’ undertakings.

The next most common complaint was about overcharging (199 complaints) and delay (172), followed by ‘‘shoddy work’’ (132), failure to hand over papers (128) and failure to account (105). Only 19 clients complained about dishonesty or deception.
