Laugh in the face of the downturn

Having suffered for much of the recession, the Kilkenny Cat Laughs comedy festival has had a fresh shot in the arm thanks to a sponsorship deal with Sky, writes Philip Conolly.

After three fallow years without a sponsor, Ireland's most popular comedy festival is looking at a new dawn this year after the firm behind the Kilkenny Cat Laughs festival signed a title sponsorship and partnership deal with Sky Ireland.

The festival, which starts this week, previously had a number of sponsorship deals with drinks companies. But after a number of years without a sponsor, it founds itself in a precarious position and survived on ticket...
