The number of credit unions in talks on possible mergers has surged in recent weeks, with almost 120 credit unions considering joining forces.

There are 390 credit unions registered here, but a spate of mergers is expected in the coming months, with the credit union restructuring board (Rebo) now in talks with credit unions on 52 possible mergers.
