When thieves recently broke into British pop singer Will Young's London home and stole his laptop, he lost a number of songs from his upcoming album. The loss to the singer, and possibly the world, was incalculable.

Alas, it happens on a regular basis. Earlier this year, a laptop containing songs from U2's just-released album, How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb, was lifted from the band's studio.
