Labour wants first-time buyer scheme

The Labour Party is tomake a pledge to first-time buyers, to ensure that they have access to the deposit they need to buy a new home, in its manifesto for the next general election.

Labour leader Pat Rabbitte told The Sunday Business Post that it would be a state-sponsored scheme designed to assist the many young people in employment who can afford to make monthlymortgage repayments, but who find it impossible to raise enough money for a deposit.

The scheme would be totally separate from the mortgage repayments but would simply finance the deposit, saidRabbitte.
