Labour senators are mobilising to campaign against the Seanad's abolition.

Labour senators are mobilising to campaign against the Seanad's abolition. They are also insisting that there is "an understanding" with party leader Eamon Gilmore that they have a free vote on the Seanad's future.

A tense meeting is expected on Tuesday between Labour senators and party chief whip Emmet Stagg in the wake of an embarrassing defeat for the government on a Seanad motion.
