Labour has claimed that Fine Gael’s plan for 18,000 public sector retirements more than that already agreed in the government’s four-year plan will deliver only a fraction of the €10 billion savings Fine Gael has claimed will be made over five years.

Labour has claimed that Fine Gael’s plan for 18,000 public sector retirements more than that already agreed in the government’s four-year plan will deliver only a fraction of the €10 billion savings Fine Gael has claimed will be made over five years.

The party said it would be 2022 when Fine Gael would achieve payroll savings of €10 billion from an additional 18,000 redundancies for which it will borrow €1 billion, twice...
