My mother was made in Kenmare. Growing up overseas, visits to this aesthetic pocket of the realm, home to beloved grandparents fortunate to live there all year round, were always a highlight of our alternate summer pilgrimages to Ireland.

Despite umpteen sojourns to the area, I had never occasioned (nor had the wisdom) to head a little further along the road to Parknasilla, an exquisite neo-Gothic Victorian hotel set on 500 acres of prolific parkland...
