Kerry Group's jobs announcement last week was widely welcomed, but shareholders already had plenty of reasons to be pleased with the food giant, writes Jon Ihle.

The announcement last week that Kerry Group was bringing 900 jobs and a €100 million investment to Naas, Co Kildare over the next four years offered welcome news for the struggling local economy and a valuable positive photo opportunity for the Taoiseach as the Budget hoves into view.

But shareholders in the indigenous food giant already had plenty of reasons to be pleased with the company given its outstanding performance this year.
