Enda Kenny achieved a famous, against theodds victory last week.

Through sheer grit and canny politicking, he and his team reversed a momentum for Richard Bruton that seemed irresistible, ensuring his mastery of the parliamentary party and his probable ascension to the office of Taoiseach after the next election.

But an even greater challenge awaits Kenny before that.
