One in five Irish adults singled out the Corkman for their greatest admiration, closely followed by golfer Padraig Harrington.
In the survey, by consultant Onside Sponsorship, the Open champion emerged as the second most admired sports person among Irish adults. The research was carried out before Harrington’s recent retention of the Open title.
