To put some distance between himself and his troubled, dysfunctional life, 11-year-old Jonathan Caouette borrowed a camera and started filming himself, friends and family.

Over the next 20 years, he documented around 160 hours of personal footage using Super-8, Betamax, VHS, Hi-8 and Mini-DV cameras.
