Shortly after the International Olympic Committee selected London to host the 2012 Olympics on Wednesday afternoon, Tony Blair told the British people it was a “momentous day".
“It's not often in this job that you punch the air and do a little jig and embrace the person next to you,” the prime minister told reporters ahead of the G8 meeting in Gleneagles, Scotland.
Blair's joy was short-lived, however.
