Johnson & Johnson deal set to double Irish workforce to 3,800

With EU approval for Johnson & J o h n s o n ‘ s planned $24 billion takeover of medical device maker Guidant, the baby oil maker looks set to become an even bigger force in Irish business life.

The EU's approval for the deal after the companies agreed to divest some activities removes a major potential stumbling block to the biggest deal in Johnson & Johnson's 118-year history. The companies must now await the outcome of an investigation being conducted by the Federal Trade Commission in the United States, which is expected to conclude in October.
