Italy considered tapping the European Financial Stability Facility (EFSF) when the new government was appointed last November, according to comments by Italian prime minister Mario Monti.

According to a report by Bloomberg News, Monti said the Italians faced an “initial dilemma”. He said the government had to decide whether to use the facilities provided by the EFSF, get financial support from the IMF or “concentrate our actions on our own ground”.
