Isn’t art great?

This month, a Dublin auction house is putting up for sale 100 lots from Abbeville, the former home of the late Charlie Haughey. There are even some portraits of the former taoiseach himself, which will no doubt be snapped up by some art expert.

While auctions are not about how much money can be made, it is to be hoped that the sale of these works will bring in some money. When Abbeville itself was sold by Haughey in 2003, it went for a reported €45million. Everyone in the country must have been delighted for him, particularly as it helped him to pay some of the money he owed the state.

Presumably, Haughey accrued a lot of these artworks...
