Is meat Murder?

With a recent report showing that meat production accounts for 18 per cent of global greenhouse gas emissions – more than cars, buses and aeroplanes combined – could a move towards a meat-free diet provide a solution?

When the Nobel laureate Rajendra Pachauri addressed delegates at a climate change conference in London last September, he issued a rallying cry. ‘‘Often, when one talks about climate change, in every audience there will be somebody who asks: ‘Okay, I accept all this, but what can I do in my personal life?”‘ said Pachauri, who is also chair of the United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
