Is it smart to insure your smartphone?

Your handset might cost nothing, but it could cost you up to €699 to replace, writes Lisa Jackson

9th July, 2011

While many smartphones now come free when you sign up to a contract with a mobile phone provider, they are expensive gadgets, and costly to replace if lost, damaged or stolen.

For example, the cost of buying a 16GB iPhone 4 from the online Apple store is €599, while the price of a 32GB iPhone is €699.

The HTC Desire S Android phone will set you back about €450 and a BlackBerry 9800 Torch costs €529.99.
