Irish Water paid consultants €600 per day

Costs justified on grounds that objectives and security do not come cheaply'

Irish Water paid consultants an average rate of almost €600 a day in the rush to set up its operations.

The new body hired some of the best known international consultancy firms, including Accenture, IBM, KMPG and PwC Their staff were paid an average of €600 per day, equivalent to €3,000 for a five-day week.

It comes as water charges for 1.28 million households are due to be introduced on October 1.
