Management at the Irish Times is likely to seek up to 80 redundancies across all departments in the middle of next year, according to sources at the newspaper.

The new wave of job cuts comes just three years after a financial crisis at the paper triggered the departure of almost a third of the staff and severe cutbacks in expenditure.

Unions have not yet been consulted, but they are likely to resist the plan.
