Irish Times editor may face rules threat
Irish Times editor Geraldine Kennedy could run into problems under the newspaper’s own rules, if she is pursued by the Mahon Tribunal over the leak relating to payments made to Bertie Ahern in the 1990s, when he was Minister for Finance.
Under the articles of association of the Irish Times, a director ceases to hold office if convicted of an indictable offence, other than a road traffic offence. The tribunal has already told Kennedy that she could be indicted under tribunal legislation, warning her of the possibility of a €300,000 fine and two years in jail. It is thought highly unlikely that Kennedy will be jailed.
