Irish teams banking on Europa League success

With many League of Ireland clubs facing financial difficulties at every turn, progressing in Europe would give a huge boost to the coffers as well as the players, writes Linda Maher

At the end of a massive week for League of Ireland clubs, it is perhaps ironic that the team that earned the most money did so in a friendly match. The teams that progressed in the Europa League will have earned themselves prize money of €130,000,while Shamrock Rovers are thought to have earned as much as €150,000 from last Monday night’s friendly against Real Madrid.
