Irish stamp duty remains one of the highest in EU

Irish homebuyers pay a whopping nine times more stamp duty than their counterparts in Sweden when buying a €640,000 home, according to a new survey.

The massive differential in tax handed over to the government - €57,600 in Ireland, as opposed to just €6,400 in Sweden - is all the more surprising considering that the Scandinavian country has one of the most heavily taxed economies in the world.
