Irish people spend more than €2.1 billion a year – or about 1.8 per cent of GDP – on sports and leisure, according to new research on the business of sport in Ireland.

Irish people spend more than €2.1 billion a year – or about 1.8 per cent of GDP – on sports and leisure, according to new research on the business of sport in Ireland.

The research from A&L Goodbody solicitors takes into account leisure and fitness-related expenditure, as well as the income generated by national sporting events. It is one of the first surveys to calculate the total economic impact of sport.
