Easily missed in a Christie’s catalogue crammed with Dutch, Danish, French, German, Italian and Swedish antiques is a handful of fine Irish furniture.

The rarest lot is a set of eight George III mid-18th century mahogany dining chairs. Elaborately carved, they have a shell-centred top rail heightened with penwork and with pierced and interlaced lambrequin and C scrolled splat, a drop in seat and channelled square tapering legs joined by H-stretchers (€5,800-€8,700)....
