The Irish film Garage, starring comedian Pat Shortt as a likeable misfit looking for love, is hoping to strike a major distribution deal for its international release at the Cannes Film Festival in France, which begins on Wednesday.

The film, which recently sold its distribution rights in cinemas in France to the French film companyMK2, was selected earlier this month for the prestigious Director’s Fortnight, a selection of international films shown during the festival....
