Irish debt may be re-engineered, says Taoiseach

UPDATE: There's been a seismic shift in European policy, says Taoiseach Enda Kenny, after lengthy talks between euro leaders overnight.

Taoiseach Enda Kenny has said last night's agreement in Brussels to address Spain's bank debt represented a seismic shift that should lead to a re-engineering of Ireland's debt burden.

The link between sovereign and bank debt has been severed, he said.

"There has been a seismic shift in European policy," he told RTE's Morning Ireland programme. "What was deemed to be unachievable has now become a reality."
