Irish claims likely in Vioxx case

A $253 million (€208 million) settlement against drug company Merck in a Texas court involves a drug taken by thousands of Irish people before its withdrawal from the market last October.

Merck must pay the money to the family of a Texas man who died after taking the company's Vioxx painkiller, a jury ruled in the first personal-injury case over the drug to come to trial.
