Ireland may join a second EU battlegroup, the military forces on standby to deploy for peace-keeping, humanitarian or peace enforcement duty, The Sunday Business Post has learned.
Ireland is already a member of the Swedish-led Nordic battlegroup, which is due to be on standby for the first six months of 2011. This means that up to 150 Irish soldiers could be deployed anywhere in the world within five days of agreement by EU governments.
