With the Israeli body politic consumed by the crisis surrounding disengagement from Gaza, Mordecai Vanunu seems like a character from a very different era of political crisis in Israel.

A former technician at Dimona, the Israeli nuclear installation, Vanunu leaked details of Israel's nuclear capability to The Sunday Times in the 1980s.

Vanunu is still a prisoner in Israel despite being released from actual prison in April last year after 18 years incarceration.
