Cinema owners are expecting a substantial upturn in business in 2011 – largely because of a better mix of film releases.

Admissions for the first ten months of last year were down 3.1 per cent on 2009, as several potential blockbusters failed to perform at the box office.

Jane White of Carlton Screen Advertising – which tracks admissions – described the numbers as ‘‘flat’’, especially during the early summer.
