Interest rates to remain unchanged for "extended period" - Draghi

UPDATE: The European Central Bank has, as expected, kept interest rates unchanged at a record low of 0.5 per cent.

The European Central Bank has, as expected, kept interest rates unchanged at a record low of 0.5 per cent with the bank's president, Mario Draghi, saying that they would remain at this level, or lower, for "an extended period".

Analysts had predicted that the bank would leave rates untouched as evidence mounts that the eurozone economy is pulling out of its longest-ever recession.
