Intel, the world’s largest semiconductor maker with a major operation in Leixlip, Co Kildare, forecast fourth-quarter profit margins that missed analysts’ estimates as a slump in demand for personal computers eroded profitability.

Gross margin, the percentage of sales left after deducting production costs and the only profit yardstick Intel forecasts, will be about 57 per cent, the Santa Clara, California-based company said in a statement. That’s less than the 61.4 per cent...
